This Privacy Policy explains how Breeze (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in the MapleTrail iPhone app and its related support and feedback pages. MapleTrail is designed so that location history stays on your own device by default. It does not require a MapleTrail account and does not use personal information for advertising, tracking, or sale.
1. Data MapleTrail processes
To provide its location timeline, track, place, and footprint features, MapleTrail may process:
- precise location, including latitude, longitude, altitude, horizontal or vertical accuracy, and location source;
- timestamps, speed, direction, and device uptime information associated with location records;
- movement states obtained or inferred with Core Motion, such as stationary, walking, running, cycling, or driving;
- places you save, name, or edit, including a place name, address, category, location, and radius;
- track titles, notes, start and end places, and edits you make to tracks or stays;
- sync state, data version, and on-device settings needed to operate the app.
MapleTrail does not require a MapleTrail account and does not collect passwords, contacts, photos, payment information, or advertising identifiers.
2. How the data is used
The data is used only to provide features you choose to use, including:
- recording routes while the app is in use or in the background when you permit it;
- identifying movement types, stays, and places;
- creating timelines, tracks, maps, journey statistics, and footprint summaries;
- providing backup, restore, export, and optional iCloud sync;
- diagnosing collection, sync, and performance problems so the app can operate reliably.
We do not use MapleTrail data for advertising, marketing profiles, cross-app or cross-website tracking, and we do not sell or rent it.
3. On-device storage and optional iCloud sync
MapleTrail uses an on-device SQLite database on your iPhone as its source of truth. iCloud sync is off by default.
If you enable iCloud sync in Settings, MapleTrail uses CloudKit to store syncable track points, places, track edits, and stay adjustments in the private CloudKit database associated with your Apple ID. This lets the data sync between your Apple devices. Breeze does not create a separate server account and does not copy this location history to Breeze-operated servers.
Turning off iCloud sync stops future sync activity. It does not automatically remove data already stored on your device or in your private iCloud database. Use “Delete All Data” in the app to remove both.
4. Apple system services
MapleTrail uses Apple frameworks and services:
- Location Services / Core Location to obtain your position and, with permission, record routes in the foreground or background;
- Core Motion to classify movement such as walking, running, cycling, or driving and choose an appropriate collection mode;
- MapKit to display maps, places, and tracks;
- Apple Geocoding to convert coordinates into readable addresses or search for a place or address when needed;
- CloudKit to store syncable data in your private iCloud database after you enable iCloud sync.
When these services are used, Apple may process related data according to Apple’s privacy policy and your system settings. MapleTrail does not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
5. On-device diagnostics
MapleTrail records limited diagnostic events on the device, such as location callbacks, sample results, movement-state changes, sync results, and errors. These records help diagnose collection, sync, and performance problems.
Diagnostics stay on the device. They are not synced to CloudKit and are not included in MapleTrail JSON backups. They are not sent to Breeze unless you choose to include relevant information in a support or feedback request.
6. Exports and backups
You can export:
- a JSON backup for restoring MapleTrail tracks, places, and related edits; and
- a CSV file containing raw location samples.
You choose where an exported file is saved or shared. Once it leaves MapleTrail, you are responsible for its storage, sharing, and deletion. Do not send files containing private location history to people or services you do not trust.
7. Retention and deletion
Data on your device and in your private iCloud database remains until you delete individual content, remove app data, or use “Delete All Data.” MapleTrail cannot automatically delete files you previously exported.
The in-app complete deletion flow:
- lets you export a backup first or continue without one;
- asks for a second, irreversible confirmation;
- stops location collection and turns off iCloud sync;
- deletes MapleTrail’s custom zone from your private CloudKit database; and
- after cloud deletion succeeds, or after confirming that no iCloud account is available, clears local tracks, places, edits, diagnostics, and geocoding cache.
If CloudKit deletion fails, MapleTrail does not report success and does not silently delete only the local copy. Local data is kept so you can retry. Ordinary preferences and your language choice may remain, but iCloud sync stays off.
If you have already removed the app and need help, or want information submitted through the feedback page deleted, contact [email protected]. Private CloudKit data may also be managed through Apple’s iCloud data-management options.
8. Support and feedback information
The feedback page may collect:
- a problem or suggestion category;
- the message you enter; and
- a name or contact detail you voluntarily provide.
We use this information only to respond to and handle support requests. Contact information is optional. Do not submit passwords, full location histories, or sensitive location information that is not needed to resolve the issue. Support records are retained while needed to handle the request and for reasonable security or compliance needs. You may ask us to delete feedback or contact details you submitted by emailing [email protected].
9. Data security
MapleTrail uses the iOS app sandbox, an on-device database, and Apple’s private CloudKit database to protect data. Transfers to Apple services use system-provided secure connections. No storage or transmission method can guarantee absolute security, so protect your device, Apple ID, and exported files.
10. Children’s privacy
MapleTrail is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child submitted support or feedback information, contact [email protected] so we can take appropriate action.
11. Your choices
You can:
- decline or withdraw location, background location, and Motion & Fitness permissions in iOS Settings;
- stop collection at any time;
- leave iCloud sync off or turn it off after enabling it;
- export your data;
- delete individual places or track edits;
- use “Delete All Data” to remove MapleTrail data on the device and in private iCloud; and
- contact [email protected] with a privacy request.
Withdrawing a permission may prevent the related feature from working, but it does not prevent access to existing on-device data.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy if app features or data handling change. We will change the date at the top of the page and provide an appropriate notice for material changes.
