Android 2.0.1 privacy policy

This section applies to MapleTrail for Android 2.0.1. The iPhone policy is retained separately below. Android requires no MapleTrail account and has no advertising or location-history cloud synchronization. We do not sell your data.

Location and local storage

With your permission, MapleTrail records precise location, accuracy, time, speed and movement information to show tracks, stays, saved places and reports. Place names, boundaries, notes and edits remain in the app's private local storage. Collection can continue with a foreground notification while the screen is off. If you enable the relevant permissions and collection, the app may use background location and place-region monitoring and restore requested collection after a restart. Stop recording in the app or notification, or revoke permissions in Android Settings.

The history database is not uploaded to Breeze. Android cloud backup and device transfer of app data are disabled. Android 2.0.1 has no cross-device cloud sync. Online services described below receive the information required for individual requests, rather than a copy of your history database.

Google maps, place search and building outlines

Online maps and Google place search contact Google directly. Requests can reveal the map area you view, search text and selected place identifiers or geographic search bounds. Google's SDKs also process IP addresses, device and SDK metadata, SDK-specific identifiers, interaction information and SDK crash diagnostics. This processing is separate from MapleTrail's optional usage-statistics switch. See Google's Privacy Policy and Google Maps terms. Saved-place filtering and local history processing take place on your device.

After selecting a search result, the app may request public building data for that area from stac.overturemaps.org and tiles.overturemaps.org. These providers receive your IP address and requested geographic area. Requests do not include historical routes, visit times, place names or analytics identifiers. Matching occurs locally; a boundary is stored when you save the place. See Overture attribution and OpenStreetMap licensing.

Purchases and trial

Google Play processes payments and subscriptions under Google's policies. MapleTrail reads purchase results, product identifiers, signed purchase information and purchase times to verify and restore Pro access. Breeze does not receive your payment-card details. Local trial and purchase state are separate from location-history backups. The buy-once plan provides permanent local Pro features and three months of Google place search; a monthly subscription provides online search while active. The purchase screen shows applicable prices and terms.

Optional usage statistics

Usage statistics are off by default. If enabled in Settings, MapleTrail sends limited usage and reliability events to Breeze's analytics service: random installation and session identifiers, app-event times, device/model and OS/app versions, language and time zone, screen and feature use, settings and permission states, Pro/trial status and fixed error categories. Continuous usage measurements are grouped into ranges. These installation-based records are not linked to a MapleTrail account.

Statistics do not include coordinates, routes, visit times, place names, addresses, notes, search text, other free text, payment details or raw exception messages. Local diagnostic logs are not automatically uploaded as logs. Network requests expose an IP address to the receiving service. When statistics are enabled, the analytics service may derive an approximate country from that IP address for aggregate usage analysis; this is not GPS location or route history. Turning statistics off stops new uploads and clears queued events. The in-app statistics-deletion control requests removal of this installation's server records and clears its local statistics identity; request acceptance is not instant confirmation that server deletion has finished. Contact support for questions about retention or deletion.

Export, retention and deletion

Local history remains until you delete it, clear app storage or uninstall. JSON backups and CSV exports contain location information and are written only to a destination you choose through Android's file picker. Choosing a cloud provider transfers the file under that provider's policy. Imported backups do not restore purchase, trial or statistics-consent state. Exported copies are outside the app's control.

Use the app's history-deletion controls to delete local records. Deleting history does not delete previously exported files or server statistics; use the separate statistics-deletion control for the latter. Clearing app storage also clears local caches. You may contact [email protected] about data handling or support correspondence. Please avoid sending sensitive location history unless needed for your request.

Children and changes

MapleTrail is not directed to children under 13. Material changes will be reflected in this policy and app disclosures.

iPhone privacy policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Breeze (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in the MapleTrail iPhone app and its related support and feedback pages. MapleTrail is designed so that location history stays on your own device by default. It does not require a MapleTrail account and does not use personal information for advertising, tracking, or sale.

1. Data MapleTrail processes

To provide its location timeline, track, place, and footprint features, MapleTrail may process:

• precise location, including latitude, longitude, altitude, horizontal or vertical accuracy, and location source;
• timestamps, speed, direction, and device uptime information associated with location records;
• movement states obtained or inferred with Core Motion, such as stationary, walking, running, cycling, or driving;
• places you save, name, or edit, including a place name, address, category, location, and radius;
• track titles, notes, start and end places, and edits you make to tracks or stays;
• sync state, data version, and on-device settings needed to operate the app.

MapleTrail does not require a MapleTrail account and does not collect passwords, contacts, photos, payment information, or advertising identifiers.

2. How the data is used

The data is used only to provide features you choose to use, including:

• recording routes while the app is in use or in the background when you permit it;
• identifying movement types, stays, and places;
• creating timelines, tracks, maps, journey statistics, and footprint summaries;
• providing backup, restore, export, and optional iCloud sync;
• diagnosing collection, sync, and performance problems so the app can operate reliably.

We do not use MapleTrail data for advertising, marketing profiles, cross-app or cross-website tracking, and we do not sell or rent it.

3. On-device storage and optional iCloud sync

MapleTrail uses an on-device SQLite database on your iPhone as its source of truth. iCloud sync is off by default.

If you enable iCloud sync in Settings, MapleTrail uses CloudKit to store syncable track points, places, track edits, and stay adjustments in the private CloudKit database associated with your Apple ID. This lets the data sync between your Apple devices. Breeze does not create a separate server account and does not copy this location history to Breeze-operated servers.

Turning off iCloud sync stops future sync activity. It does not automatically remove data already stored on your device or in your private iCloud database. Use “Delete All Data” in the app to remove both.

The 3-day Pro trial is managed by the app. Its earliest start time is stored in the device Keychain and may be kept consistent across devices through your private iCloud key-value storage. This timestamp does not enable location-history sync and is not sent to Breeze as a trial-start timestamp. Usage statistics may separately report the trial-start event and trial status as described in section 5. “Delete All Data” does not reset a used trial.

4. Apple system services

MapleTrail uses Apple frameworks and services:

• Location Services / Core Location to obtain your position and, with permission, record routes in the foreground or background;
• Core Motion to classify movement such as walking, running, cycling, or driving and choose an appropriate collection mode;
• MapKit to display maps, places, and tracks;
• Apple Geocoding to convert coordinates into readable addresses or search for a place or address when needed;
• CloudKit to store syncable data in your private iCloud database after you enable iCloud sync.

When these services are used, Apple may process related data according to Apple’s privacy policy and your system settings. MapleTrail does not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. Its built-in usage statistics are described in section 5.

4.1 Building outline data

When you select an address search result, MapleTrail may look up an approximate building outline using Overture Maps public data. The app contacts stac.overturemaps.org and tiles.overturemaps.org directly to request data for the selected area. These services and their delivery providers receive your IP address and the requested geographic area. Requests do not include place names, address text, historical routes, visit times or analytics identifiers, and do not send location history to Breeze.

Matching and outline simplification happen on your device. Temporary downloads remain in memory. A boundary is stored locally only when you save the place and may then be included in your optional private iCloud sync or backups. You can also edit boundaries manually. See Overture Maps and OpenStreetMap for sources and licensing.

5. On-device diagnostics and usage statistics

MapleTrail keeps detailed location and sync diagnostics on your device. These local records are not synced to CloudKit, included in user JSON backups, or automatically uploaded to Breeze. You may choose to provide relevant information when contacting support.

Separately, when usage statistics are enabled, the app sends limited usage and reliability data to a Breeze-operated analytics service to understand feature use, diagnose failures, and improve the app:

• device type and model, operating-system version, app version and build, distribution channel, app and system language, locale, and time zone;
• app launches, sessions, screen views, feature interactions, event times, and usage-duration ranges;
• settings and permission states, such as recording mode, location and motion authorization, notifications, background refresh, and whether iCloud sync is enabled;
• ranges of local data volumes, such as the number of samples or saved places, without the underlying content;
• trial and Pro status, purchase and restore outcomes, without payment details; and
• limited error and crash reports, including error categories, technical stack information and app-operation breadcrumbs, with sensitive details filtered.

Statistics use a randomly generated installation ID and session identifiers. These let us associate events from the same installation; they are not your Apple ID or an advertising identifier, and we do not link them to a named MapleTrail account. This is installation-based data, not a promise that all technical records are completely unidentifiable.

Usage statistics do not include GPS coordinates, route geometry, stops, saved place names, addresses, visit times, notes, or other text you enter. The app does not attach your name, email address, Apple ID or advertising identifiers to analytics. Data-volume and duration measurements are grouped into ranges before upload; app-event timestamps and technical version information are still included.

As part of receiving network requests, the analytics service may process and retain IP addresses, request times, User-Agent information and delivery/error status for service operation and troubleshooting. It may infer an approximate country, region or city from the IP address using a server-side IP-location database. This is separate from GPS location history and does not upload your recorded routes.

Usage statistics are on by default. In Settings › About › Privacy › Data sharing, you can turn off “Share usage statistics.” After you confirm, new collection stops and the local pending queue is cleared. The app still makes a final attempt to send a batch of previously collected usage events, including your opt-out choice; that final batch is not retried if delivery fails. Turning statistics off does not delete data already received.

On the same page, “Delete analytics data” submits a server-side deletion request for the current installation ID. After the server accepts the request, the app clears its local analytics state; a new random ID is generated if statistics continue. Acceptance of the request is not confirmation that server-side deletion has finished. You can copy or share the analytics identifier from this page and include it in a privacy request to [email protected]. To stop future statistics as well, turn off sharing.

Raw analytics and error records are retained for up to 90 days, and statistical summaries for up to 2 years. We do not use these data for advertising, sell them, or use them for cross-app or cross-website tracking.

6. Exports and backups

You can export:

• a JSON backup for restoring MapleTrail tracks, places, and related edits; and
• a CSV file containing raw location samples.

You choose where an exported file is saved or shared. Once it leaves MapleTrail, you are responsible for its storage, sharing, and deletion. Do not send files containing private location history to people or services you do not trust.

7. Retention and deletion

Location-history deletion and analytics deletion are separate. Use “Delete analytics data” in Settings › About › Privacy › Data sharing for server-side statistics, as described in section 5.

Data on your device and in your private iCloud database remains until you delete individual content, remove app data, or use “Delete All Data.” MapleTrail cannot automatically delete files you previously exported.

The in-app complete deletion flow:

1. lets you export a backup first or continue without one;
2. asks for a second, irreversible confirmation;
3. stops location collection and turns off iCloud sync;
4. deletes MapleTrail’s custom zone from your private CloudKit database; and
5. after cloud deletion succeeds, or after confirming that no iCloud account is available, clears local tracks, places, edits, diagnostics, and geocoding cache.

If CloudKit deletion fails, MapleTrail does not report success and does not silently delete only the local copy. Local data is kept so you can retry. Ordinary preferences and your language choice may remain, but iCloud sync stays off.

If you have already removed the app and need help, or want information submitted through the feedback page deleted, contact [email protected]. Private CloudKit data may also be managed through Apple’s iCloud data-management options.

8. Support and feedback information

The feedback page may collect:

• a problem or suggestion category;
• the message you enter; and
• a name or contact detail you voluntarily provide.

We use this information only to respond to and handle support requests. Contact information is optional. Do not submit passwords, full location histories, or sensitive location information that is not needed to resolve the issue. Support records are retained while needed to handle the request and for reasonable security or compliance needs. You may ask us to delete feedback or contact details you submitted by emailing [email protected].

9. Data security

MapleTrail uses the iOS app sandbox, an on-device database, and Apple’s private CloudKit database to protect data. Transfers to Apple services use system-provided secure connections. No storage or transmission method can guarantee absolute security, so protect your device, Apple ID, and exported files.

10. Children’s privacy

MapleTrail is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child submitted support or feedback information, contact [email protected] so we can take appropriate action.

11. Your choices

You can:

• decline or withdraw location, background location, and Motion & Fitness permissions in iOS Settings;
• stop collection at any time;
• leave iCloud sync off or turn it off after enabling it;
• export your data;
• delete individual places or track edits;
• use “Delete All Data” to remove MapleTrail data on the device and in private iCloud; and
• turn off usage statistics or request analytics deletion in Settings › About › Privacy › Data sharing; and
• contact [email protected] with a privacy request.

Withdrawing a permission may prevent the related feature from working, but it does not prevent access to existing on-device data.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy if app features or data handling change. We will change the date at the top of the page and provide an appropriate notice for material changes.
